I was recently enrolled in an online school program. Although it took some getting used to, I came to love the "newsgroup" format. I feel this online learning will prove to be an excellent resource for "skills" and "concept" courses alike.
Online instruction is supposed to be convenient, self-paced within due dates and limits, requiring interaction when that will enhance the learning experience.
I think the best part about it was the increased ability for students to learn from other students with a wide array of backgrounds and real world experiences relating to the topic at hand.

Great post... after attending night school for a while, I decided to look into distance learning and I'm glad I did. After quite a bit of research, I selected Columbia College... primarily because they offered 8 week semesters and because their tuition was very reasonable... $195 per credit hour when I attended (although I think it has gone up to $205 now... but still a great bargain). I think the most important consideration though is accreditation... regional accreditation is essential for your degree to have any respect with employers and other universities should you want to head to grad school.
